After Real Madrid’s Draw with Girona: What Do Barcelona Need to Seal La Liga Title?

Barcelona have taken another significant step toward the La Liga title after Real Madrid were held to a 1–1 draw by Girona at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The gap now stands at six points, with Barcelona still having a game in hand. The Catalan side are set to face Espanyol in the derby on Saturday at Camp Nou as part of Matchday 31.

This scenario leaves Hansi Flick’s men in a highly favorable position, as winning their remaining four home matches at Camp Nou would be enough to secure the title.

One of those fixtures includes a crucial clash against Real Madrid on May 10. Victory in that encounter would not only add three points to Barcelona’s tally but also deny their direct rivals the same, further strengthening their position.

Should Barcelona win, they would also gain an additional advantage in goal difference. Head-to-head results would no longer be decisive, as a victory at Camp Nou—regardless of the scoreline—would offset their 2–1 defeat at the Bernabéu.

As a result, if Barcelona win all four of their remaining home matches, they will be crowned champions. The schedule also appears favorable, with back-to-back home games against Espanyol and Celta Vigo, followed later by matches against Real Madrid and Real Betis.

Even in the scenario where Barcelona win only their four home games while Real Madrid win all of their remaining six matches, Barcelona would still come out on top due to goal difference, which would be the decisive factor.

Currently, Barcelona hold a goal difference of +71 ahead of the Espanyol clash, compared to Real Madrid’s +36—giving Barcelona a commanding advantage, with the potential to extend it further in the derby.
