Onda Cero: De la Fuente Will Not Call Up Barcelona Star for Spain’s World Cup Squad

Spain has practically secured qualification for the World Cup after their 4–0 away victory in Tbilisi against Georgia. Only a collapse against Turkey on Tuesday at La Cartuja in Seville — losing by more than six goals — would prevent them from progressing.

As a result, discussions have already begun regarding the squad for next summer’s tournament, with early predictions and debates emerging about which players Luis de la Fuente might select.

During the program “Radioestadio Noche” on Onda Cero, the topic was analyzed, and journalist Santiago Segurola mentioned two names currently under consideration: Alejandro Balde and Dani Olmo.

Regarding the former, he stated: “I believe Balde is not liked by De la Fuente.”
As for the latter, he commented: “For me, Dani Olmo is a guaranteed pick in this squad. If he is physically fit, Spain simply cannot afford to leave him out of the World Cup list.”

The journalist also spoke about Spain’s chances in the tournament: “Spain has a squad capable of winning the World Cup — just like Argentina, Brazil, and Germany… many things can happen in a World Cup.”
