Just 24 hours after the match… Estevão sends a message to Barcelona through his agent

Estevão was one of the standout names in Chelsea’s victory over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge. The young Brazilian forward — for whom the London club paid €45 million fixed plus €16.5 million in variables — shone with an impressive performance and a stunning goal against the Catalan side, who were very interested in signing him during his time at Palmeiras but never took the final step to complete the deal.

According to Sport, Barcelona closely monitored Estevão’s progress, but when it came time to make a decision, they ruled out signing him for sporting reasons (he plays in the same position as Lamine Yamal) and financial ones (his price was extremely high amid the club’s complex economic situation).

This Wednesday, the player’s agent, André Cury, confirmed this in an interview with Cadena SER, also admitting that the young talent has a “special affection” for the Catalan club.

Cury said:
“We spoke with Barcelona about Estevão in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. We kept offering the player because we believed he had a great future, but Barcelona, financially, were not in a good condition.”

He added:
“The people in the technical department always approved the deal, but Deco was very limited because the club’s financial situation did not allow the operation to go through.”

The Brazilian’s agent clarified that “he now has a contract and is enjoying his time at Chelsea,” but also made clear that “he has special feelings for Barcelona.”
