He lost everything.. Nico Williams receives a severe blow after betraying Barcelona
Athletic Bilbao have surprisingly extended the contract of 22-year-old Spanish winger Nico Williams amid confirmed reports that he has agreed to join Barcelona after paying the €58 million release clause.
The shocking news sparked widespread anger within Barcelona, with some describing Neco Williams’ actions as a major betrayal and suggesting he would never be a target for the club again.
According to Catalan newspaper El Nacional, Joan Laporta was seen in a state of extreme anger upon hearing the news of Neco Williams’ contract extension with Athletic Bilbao, and told those present that Barcelona would never sign the player in the future.
Barcelona wasn’t the only team looking to sign Neco Williams, with German club Bayern Munich also made a higher offer than Barcelona and sent a special representative last week to try to snatch the deal from Barcelona.
Strangely, Nico Williams did not join Bayern Munich after citing fears that Barcelona would not be able to register him next season, as happened with Dani Olmo last season.
A strong shock for Neco Williams
Barcelona has closed the door on Nico Williams for good, but he’s not alone. Bayern Munich has also decided not to make any further offers for him this year or in the coming years.
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said in press statements today: “Will we sign Uli Hoeness next season? No, it’s over. In my opinion, Bilbao is just trying to make more money, as his price tag will exceed 60 million euros next year.”
