Barcelona monitor a striker who impressed in the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently being held in Morocco, has attracted close attention from European clubs looking to scout standout players for potential future signings.
Naturally, FC Barcelona have sent their scouts to the tournament, and they have already been monitoring a striker who proved his worth in the opening round of the group stage, scoring a goal and delivering an impressive overall performance.
According to Catalan outlet Sport, Ita Iyong, the striker for the Cameroon national team and Levante, is one of the names Barcelona are considering ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The club had already explored the possibility of signing him several months ago, but salary cap restrictions prevented a deal that would otherwise have been financially viable. Now, the Catalan side are closely following his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations to assess his performances in his first major international tournament.
Iyong has quickly established himself as one of the rising names in African football. His goal-scoring ability is unquestioned, and he proved it once again at the AFCON by netting the winning goal against Gabon, which secured victory for Cameroon.
Iyong would represent a low-cost option to strengthen Barcelona’s attack, as his release clause stands at just €30 million. It would be a calculated gamble on a young talent whose market value could rise significantly if he continues to shine and emerges as one of the tournament’s standout players.
Interestingly, Barcelona’s scouts were also impressed by another player from the Cameroon–Gabon match: Samuel Koto, a 22-year-old left-back. His physical strength and ability on the ball stood out. Koto currently plays for Gent in Belgium and could prove to be a valuable prospect for the future.
